We welcome any questions you have about your pet's surgery and welcome you to tour our surgical room prior to surgery. In the meantime, here's some general information regarding pet surgery.

How Risky Is Pet Surgery?

Generally speaking, most surgeries are low risk. This is especially true of common procedures like spaying and neutering, skin growth removal, tooth removal, and fracture repair. However, any time your pet undergoes surgery, there is a chance of complications. This increases with your pet's age and underlying conditions. Our vet will discuss the possible outcomes prior to surgery to help you make your decision.

What Happens on the Day of Surgery?

Once your pet is scheduled, you'll be asked to arrive at the pet clinic early on the day of the procedure. Your pet likely be given a full pre-surgical exam to help ensure he is healthy enough for the surgery. He will then be prepped for surgery, which may include administering a sedative to keep your pet calm, shaving and cleaning of the area around the incision site, and more.

When everything is ready, your pet will be transferred to the surgical room. Anesthesia will be administered and your pet will be monitored closely during the operation. Upon completion, stitches will be placed, and your pet will be transferred to another room for recovery. He'll remain there for a little while as he comes out of the anesthesia. A staff member will keep you updated and let you know when you can pick up your pet. Lastly, you'll be given a list of post-op instructions to follow so your pet can continue recovering at home.
